You’ve been training for months and you’re in the best shape of your life – those glutes and quads are ripped, your cardio is tip-top and you’ve already bought your strapping tape to keep those ankles strong. You’re ready for the City2Surf, baby. Good for you!
But before any race, it’s important to carbo-load, right? So why not jog on down here and up your carb-intake with these totally healthy, carb-tastic lunches…
This one’s served with four kinds of ravioli, and because variety’s the spice of life we’re gonna call this one a super spicy dish. (It’s not actually spicy though, don’t worry.) On the one diverse plate you get mushroom, basil and ricotta, garlic potato, and beetroot ravioli, served up in a pink sauce with basil and croutons. So good.
How can you go past a classic cheeseburger, made by people who really know their cheeseburgers? Think a thick, grass-fed beef patty with bacon, aged cheddar, caramelised onions, mixed greens, tomato, pickles and the special house sauce. Oh, and a side of oh-so-carby thick cut chips. (It’s in the photo right up there ^ if you want to get your mouth watering.)
A specialty from the Moghul days, this dish gives you fragrant basmati rice that’s been pressure cooked to perfection in stock, with tender, juicy chicken thigh fillets, vibrant saffron, sultanas and nuts. You mouth will thank you. And, er, your training regime.
It’s somewhere between a dip and a spread, that you eat with bread, and one of its base ingredients is, well, bread. How’s that for a great carbo-load option? It’s also made from fish roe, olive oil, lemon juice and the perfect amount of Greek seasoning. You know what they say: run, don’t walk, etc.
