This month we’re celebrating the luck of the Irish. That means perfect pours of Guinness, shepherd’s pie and good craic. Whether you’re a green-blooded Irishman or a Sydneysider with fond memories of Temple Bar, we’re ready to help you celebrate.
Start of the legend
According to legend, St Patrick used a three-leaf shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish pagans. Bringing a new faith to Ireland and making him the patron saint.
So, what’s in the luck of the Irish?
The shamrock or clover is the symbol of St Patrick and we’re
used to seeing it everywhere on St Paddy’s Day. If you’re lucky enough to find
four-leaf clover you’ll be showered in hope, faith, love and luck; with
each of the leaves representing these four qualities. The four-leaf clover is
much rarer than the traditional three-leaf shamrock, so you’ve got to have luck
on your side to find one.
Leprechauns, rainbows and spirits
If lucky leaves aren’t on your side, then you can always hope to find a Leprechaun and his pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. This type of fairy is a solitary creature, who spends his time making and mending shoes, whilst hiding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If captured by a human, the Irish folklore legend grants three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
Celebrate with us
In Sydney, we tend to celebrate with a parade. The Sydney St
Patrick’s Day Festival 2020 will finish at First Fleet Park, The Rocks.
Avoid the crowd crush and head to King Street Wharf. A city stroll will get you waterside, with some of Sydney’s best spots to eat, drink and celebrate. Choose drinkable spirits, perfect pours and recipes from home, to make it a weekend to remember. Don’t forget to share the memories with us on #KingStreetWharf
Enjoy a Jameson Boilermaker or a Baby Guinness on St
Patrick’s Day. That’s a hearty mix of Jameson’s Caskmates whiskey, which is
aged in craft stout, matchmade with a frosty beer. Or a tiny mimic of Guinness
made from coffee liqueur with an iconic head of Irish cream liqueur.
Feed your soul with hearty shepherd’s pie and a pint of your choice, for $20. Celebrate into the wee hours with DJs on the decks from 9pm.
